Required Listening: The Maldives

MaldivesThe Maldives are the greatest nine-person Seattle band you’ve never heard of.

They swing as far towards traditional country as you’re likely to find me go, drawing on the banjo, pedal steel and occasional accordion and fiddle.  They are a solid country rock outfit with stellar vocals, reminiscent of the best of Rick Danko (my second favorite member of The Band). I can’t wait to see these guys live.

These guys are killer. If your favorite member of The Band is Levon Helm I think we’re soul mates.

There’s something about a singin’ drummer that is just too cool. Plus he is the only American in the band!
