The 2010 Mix

Happy New Year!

My newest mix can be downloaded here. Zip file here.  I make one of these each January. There’s no theme, other than a collection of songs that were on heavy rotation in the last year, whether or not they were released in 2009.  A lot of twang, a little indie rock and hopefully some new discoveries.

I’d love to hear what you think. I hope to make mixes more often as this site continues to grow up. Let me know if you have ideas, especially for improved file-sharing options.

Track List:

1) Even Cowgirls Get The Blues – The Gaslight Anthem

2) North Dakota – The Wooden Sky

3) Born Again – Cory Chisel and the Wandering Sons

4) Lungs – Steve Earle

5) Southern Belle – Matthew Dean Herman

6) If You Ever Get Famous – The Duke and the King

7) Lucky You – The National

8 ) Wolves – Phosphorescent

9) I Won’t Be Found – The Tallest Man on Earth

10) Colors – Portugal. The Man

11) Quiet Little Voices – We Were Promised Jetpacks

12) Wild One – Those Darlins

13) American Static – Micah Schnabel

14) I Hope He Breaks Your Heart – American Aquarium

15) Hey Darlin’, Do You Gamble? – Lucero

    Hi Elli:

Nice website and quirky interview over there at TNB (from where I followed the link).

I am a rather huge fan of music myself, used to be a music critic and DJ in Madrid, Spain when I lived there for about six years. I just moved back five months ago, and my appetite has not yet been satiated so far.

My last post at TNB was about mix tapes/CDs, and where at the end I offered a mix CD that I had made for a consummate reader and commenter of my blogs on TNB.

    That’s here:

    http://www.thenervousbreakdown.com/ktobin/2010/01/anatomy-of-a-digital-mix-cd-for-josie-wherever-she-may-wander-in-this-universe-unmanned/

And the mix (also linked from the above blog) is here:

If you don’t feel like reading my guidelines as to how to make a mix, just go straight to the tiprobin blog where I stored the tracklist and link to download it.

Given the nature of your post here, I thought I would share my excitement with you as well as the link to my own mix(es). I was not –in any way– trying to self promote. Just excited to find another music enthusiast on here whose music tastes are somewhat similar to mine.

(I love the Gaslight Anthem, The Duke and the King AND the Felice Brothers, Portugal, The Man, We were promised jetpacks.) I have not, however, heard at least half of the stuff you posted on here, and am looking forward to checking out Lucero et al.

Btw, Mumford and Sons (on the mix posted) is an amazing British indie-folk band from London. Their album “Sigh no more” is a near-perfect album. Kinda like Fleet Foxes, My Morning Jacket and a bit of Bright Eyes (in its earnestness) all meshed together. Has to be heard to understood though.

Anyway, nice blog. I will be back to read up on what the Portland scene is offering and what you’re covering.

    Cheers.

    Kip
