Mumford and Sons is a four-piece band from London and one of my favorite discoveries of the last month or two. Their full-length Sigh No More will would definitely be comfortably near the top of my 2010 albums list –if it hadn’t been released in 2009. Not surprisingly, they seem to have been getting a lot more press in the UK and Australia than stateside, but they will be touring the US in May and I would expect to hear a lot about these guys in the future.
This is really infectious music. The album, and most of its tracks, start out with understated instrumentation and lush harmonies then build up to an almost frenetic pace. Dubbed “the Banjo Princes of Britian,” these guys blend the kind of British break-up indie angst perfected on the first Frightened Rabbit album with americana instrumentation.
Thanks to Nico over at Hypeworthy for turning me on to this band.
Mumford and Sons will be live in Portland at the Alladdin Theater on May 31st. You can see other tour dates and learn more at their website.

I have become very into them! I’m definitely going to see them at the Aladdin in May.
